MELISE | REMO

“As someone who has always loved fashion, the experience of bringing a piece to life with a designer who genuinely cares about how you feel in it was incredibly special. Anna understood the vision, made the process fun and created something I absolutely adored wearing.”

Tell us about the wedding:

On 19 September 2026, we brought around 90 of our favourite people from all over the world to a Secret Fortress called Mamula Island in Montenegro, giving them nothing but coordinates and absolutely no idea what we had planned for the next three days. Very us, really. Hahaha.

We wanted our wedding to feel less like a traditional wedding and more like stepping into another world. Somewhere extraordinary, a little unexpected, deeply personal and full of adventure. Mamula Island, surrounded by the Adriatic Sea and mountains, felt like a place that belonged in a storybook. We called it Our Mamula, and it became the backdrop to one of the most magical weekends of our lives.

The weekend began with a welcome evening that felt like stepping into a Turkish grandmother’s kitchen, with traditional music, delicious food, wine and even a coffee-ground fortune teller. Friday also brought a spectacular lightning storm that delayed the boats to get to our location called limoneto, followed by a double rainbow over the island. It was a pretty incredible reminder that sometimes the most beautiful things happen when nothing goes to plan.

For the wedding day itself, we wanted an intimate, emotional ceremony followed by a celebration that would build in energy until everyone was dancing. Our celebrant, Matias, created a ceremony around our relationship after spending an evening with us in Amsterdam, asking questions about our story and what marriage meant to us. One of my favourite details was having our guests hold our wedding rings and make a wish for us before they reached us.

Our ceremony was full of personal touches. My grandfather, who travelled all the way from Australia in his eighties, walked me down the aisle while my uncle sang. I also secretly recorded a voice note for Remo to hear before the music began, because our relationship had started with a voice note and I wanted our next chapter to begin with one too. There were plenty of tears, including Remo’s, which I was rather pleased about!

Fashion was another huge part of the celebration for me. Having modelled for many years, I’ve always loved the storytelling behind clothing, and I wanted every look to feel like an extension of my personality. I was incredibly proud to wear Australian designers throughout the weekend.

My Paolo Sebastian ceremony gown was a dream come true: a dramatic, voluminous silhouette inspired by the elegance of the 1950s, with a fitted bodice, intricate details and a beautiful train. We incorporated meaningful embroidery and details honouring loved ones who had passed away, so they could be with me in their own way. My party dress by Anna Campbell was a two-piece full of sparkle and playful fringe, with words from our first-dance song embroidered into it. I wanted something that felt glamorous but that I could really dance in, and I genuinely didn’t want to take it off!

We also wanted our guests to leave with little pieces of the weekend, so we put together gifts that reflected our different worlds and personalities: Australian hats, Dutch clogs, Turkish wallets and even clip-on koalas. For our beach day, we had custom Budgy Smugglers swimwear made, because naturally, a weekend with us needed a little Aussie humour thrown into the mix.

As dinner began, Turkish drummers and clarinet appeared from around the corner, surprising our guests before leading us into the reception. Remo and I danced around the long tables as the music played, and later the drummers led everyone through the fortress towards the dance floor, where belly dancers were waiting. My Turkish family started the halay, and before long, everyone was swept into the dancing. It was loud, joyful, a beautiful mash-up of cultures and exactly what we had hoped for.

Ultimately, we wanted the weekend to feel like US, Australian, Turkish, Bosnian and Dutch, with plenty of surprises, questionable dance moves, sentimental moments and an enormous amount of love. We wanted our guests to feel they weren’t simply attending a wedding but sharing an adventure with us. Looking back, having all the different parts of our lives come together in one extraordinary place is something we know we’ll never experience in quite the same way again. We’re still a little speechless that we got to live it.

The thought process behind your second look:

For me, finding ‘The One’ for my party dress was about finding something that felt completely like me, with a little bit of drama, a little bit of sparkle and a whole lot of personality! I had so much fun creating my custom Giselle two-piece with Anna. From the moment we started working together, the whole experience felt so special. Anna made the process incredibly personal, fun and collaborative, and I absolutely adored working with her. Mum and I fell IN LOVE with the Giselle two-piece after I tried it on at The Bridal Curator in Sydney. We loved that it was a little different from the usual bridal party look. You don't often see a two-piece as a bridal party dress, and I loved the idea of doing something unexpected! We decided to reach out to Anna directly to see if we could personalise it with a few special details. We’d seen a version of the design with a high neckline that Mum and I adored, so we asked Anna if we could incorporate that, along with embroidery inspired by a song that means so much to Remo and me, as well as our wedding date. I loved the idea of wearing something that wasn't just beautiful but also held a little piece of our story. The sparkle and the incredible fringe that moved as I danced made it feel so playful, while still being elegant and sophisticated. I wanted something I could really move in, have fun in and wear all night long, and Anna brought that vision to life so beautifully. Honestly, I didn't want to take it off! Hahaha. Everyone adored it, and I had the best time wearing it. It was the perfect way to transition from bride to party mode, and I'll always look back on creating my custom Giselle two-piece with Anna so fondly.

Your experience finding the perfect party dress:

My experience with Anna and her team was honestly so special! I’m so glad we worked with Anna directly to customise the Giselle two-piece. Anna made the entire process such a joy. She was so warm, creative and open to adding those personal touches that made the piece feel uniquely mine. I loved that we could collaborate on the design, from the high neckline to the embroidery of our wedding date and the song that means so much to Remo and me. It felt like creating something together rather than simply buying a dress. As someone who has always loved fashion, the experience of bringing a piece to life with a designer who genuinely cares about how you feel in it was incredibly special. Anna understood the vision, made the process fun and created something I absolutely adored wearing.

I honestly didn't want to take it off! I'm so grateful to Anna and her team for making the whole experience so memorable.

What was your favourite moment from the day?

The moment that stays with me most vividly is just before we entered our reception dinner. The Turkish drummers and clarinet had started playing, and I remember turning to Haley, our very own fairy godmother, and saying, “Oh my god, this is incredible, this is so cool, let’s go!”. In that moment, I looked around and realised we were actually living the dream we’d spent so long imagining. Everything had come together in a way that was even more magical than we could have pictured. Honestly, even now, I still get tears in my eyes thinking about our wedding. It was so beautiful, so full of love, and somehow still feels a little surreal. I think I’m still a little speechless.

Gosh our team WAS LITERALLY A GOD SEND AND THE BEST TEAM ON THIS PLANET!

I am forever grateful for them!!
